MEET KRISTA
How did we get here?
From her first job scooping ice cream at Baskin-Robbins to opening her own neighborhood pizza joint, Krista’s life and livelihood have always revolved around food. As a child she loved to play around in the kitchen, especially if it involved baking (she still makes her family breakfast using the waffle iron she got for Christmas when she was twelve!).
During her time as owner/manager of South Perry Pizza, she took full advantage of the bounty at hand, eating pizza nearly every day. When her family sold the restaurant in 2013 and “pizza!” was no longer the default response to “what’s for dinner?”, she suddenly found herself forced to get creative. She scoured magazines, food blogs, and Pinterest in search of new recipes to try out – some were keepers, others…not so much. It was exciting to explore new foods and to step out of her culinary comfort zone – however, she found herself making daily trips to the grocery store, frequently throwing away leftover ingredients, and generally wasting lots of time planning and preparing these meals. In an attempt to remedy this problem, she tried her hand at weekly meal planning. It was not for her. Ever the perfectionist, she would spend a crazy amount of time every Sunday afternoon trying and trying to come up with dinners for the week. One Sunday, with a bit of extra time on her hands, she decided to plan out her meals for the entire month. It was a game changer. It allowed her to plan her grocery store visits more efficiently, avoid repetition, and, most importantly, save time! She has been creating monthly meal plans for 4 years and hasn’t looked back once.
The extra time she saves allows her to enjoy more time with her husband Clint and their two daughters, Ruby (3) and Juno (1). They live in Spokane, WA, where they love the quality of life. It’s not fancy, but it’s comfortable, easy, and beautiful. When they aren’t chowing down on a delicious (planned) dinner, they can be found hanging out with friends, participating in (Clint) or cheering at (the girls) bike races, walking their chocolate lab, floating the river, hiking the many trails in the area, or working on their never ending home-and-garden projects. Krista still loves to bake and looks for any excuse to whip up sweet treats of all kinds.
